JM: i graduated from the university of western ontario, where i studied political science and media and the public interest. i'm concerned with the increasing divergence between public opinion and public policy across western democracies as well as the uneven and steadily declining participation of the public in political decision-making. my research is animated by the belief that this deepening democratic deficit can be overcome by fostering a more participative society in which ordinary people are educated, engaged and empowered in all areas of public life. among other things, this blog attempts to assess the viability of such a vision by exploring more deliberative and inclusive modes of social organization and interaction //
